Estate PlanningWe strive to provide an estate plan which is simple and easy to understand. At the same time, we provide a plan which meets the needs of your family. Estate planning is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure that your property is distributed according to your wishes and that loved ones are provided for in your absence. Estate planning usually has several objectives and goals, including: • Making sure your property is transferred to your beneficiaries as you wish • Paying the least amount of taxes on your estate • Appointing a guardian for any minor children Documents associated with estate planning include: Will A Will states how your property is to be distributed after your death. It states who receives your property, in what amounts and when they are to receive it. Trust A Trust is an arrangement where you entrust property to a person or organization, known as the Trustee. The Trustee’s job is to manage the property on your behalf. A trust can be created during your lifetime or can be created after your death by the terms stated in your Will. Durable Power of Attorney A Power of Attorney gives the person or persons you name the legal power to handle your financial affairs if you’re unable to do so. Medical Directive or Medical Power of Attorney A Living Will is a statement of your wishes for the life-sustaining medical intervention you want, or don’t want, in the event you become terminally ill with little or no expectation of recovery. A Medical Directive can also appoint someone you trust to make medical decisions on your behalf if you’re unable to do so.
